My First Newborn Baby Shoot
This last week I got the chance to try something new! I will admit, when I was first asked to take the Carney’s baby photos, I was a bit intimidated by the task at hand. But once again, I needed to jump right in. I did my research beforehand, prepared as much as I could and then went for it. Throughout my life I’ve always been a planner - I like to know everything that will happen beforehand, so I’m not surprised. Babies don’t work according to plans or schedules however, and photographing them requires one to be flexible and ready to make the most of surprise moments.
Along my journey to becoming a photographer, it seems I’ve frequently had to step out of my comfort zone. I can study and study how to accomplish my goals, but the only way I can truly learn is to go out and do it. I have found that this lesson applies in all aspects of life. You must risk failing in order to succeed. As a photographer I’ve had to learn to improvise a lot. There’s always something that doesn’t go according to plan, and although that used to annoy me, I’ve come to enjoy the unexpected. I find it a little exciting. I am so thankful for the lessons I’ve been able to learn through my photoshoots. Life doesn’t typically go quite as planned, but because of photography, I’ve better learned how to bounce back and figure out the next step.
In the end, the Carney’s were amazing, and their new baby boy was adorable and so calm throughout the shoot. This was such a beautiful and fun shoot, and I will definitely be doing more baby photoshoots in the future!
